Capital One miles can be transferred to 15 different partners, of which 13 are airline partners ranging from domestic carriers like American Airlines and JetBlue to international carriers like Singapore Airlines and Emirates. Miles can be obtained through credit cards like the Spark range (for business) or the Venture range (for personal use).

Capital One’s rewards cards afford some great signup bonuses. The Spark Miles card for Business offers 50,000 miles after you spend $5,000 on purchases in the first three months and if you spend $45,000 in the first 6 months, you will earn a whopping 150,000 additional points, for a total of 200,000 points. Although this amount of spending seems outlandish, keep in mind that this is targeted towards businesses and will average out to around $8,000 in monthly business expenses. If you want something less intense, the Capital One Spark Miles Select for Business offers 20,000 bonus points for $1,000 spent in the first 2 months of account opening. For personal use, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers 50,000 miles for $3,000 spent within 3 months of account opening and the Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card offers 20,000 miles after spending $3,000 within the first three months of account opening. Although these are great rewards points, keep in mind that these cards come with annual fees. Ensure that the amount of rewards you claim exceed this annual fee to really make this card worth your while.

How do I claim my miles?

Log onto Capital One’s main banking summary page

  1. Click the link to ‘Transfer Miles’ towards the bottom right corner
  2. Click on ‘Transfer Airline Miles’
  3. Enter your frequent flyer number
  4. Decide how many miles you want to transfer. Make sure to recheck this repeatedly, as you cannot take back a transaction and the default is to transfer all your points
  5. Press complete transfer, after which you will get a confirmation message

Most transfers are completed instantly, however some transfers can take anywhere from one to five business days to complete.

The minimum number of miles you can transfer are 1,000 miles, after which you can add on miles in increments of 100. Most miles are transferred in a ratio of 2:1.5, unlike the 1:1 conversion that many other rewards programs, such as Chase, offer. Therefore, 10,000 points are not equal to 10,000 miles. The exceptions to this 2:1.5 rule are Emirates, Accor and Singapore Airlines, which follow a more straightforward 2:1 ratio.

Therefore, it is extremely simple to take advantage of Capital One’s extensive loyalty program and to easily transfer miles to your favorite airlines.
