Capital One Venture Rewards

Who is the Capital One Venture Rewards Card for?

The travel rewards for the Capital One Venture Rewards Card are compelling for an everyday-use credit card. You earn 2x miles per dollar on each purchase and - unlike other travel rewards cards - there's no limit on the number of miles you can make. This card is a great substitute (or even improvement) for a more traditional airline card because of the flexibility of how you can redeem your points. You can redeem points with almost any airline or any resort. You can also redeem rewards for travel expenses like rental cars or vacation packages. We recommend this card for all travelers due to the ease of acquiring miles.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Card comes with a series of other amenities alongside its 2x miles per dollar spent all on all purchases. At a low annual fee of $95, this card comes with no foreign transaction fee, a hefty reward of 50,000 miles after $3,000 of purchases, and a $100 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck. This card really benefits the traveler, by making transit easy and providing large amounts of miles to help you save on flights.

As Capital One’s premier travel rewards card, this card is perfect for frequent flyers who are trying to save money on their travels. 2x miles on all dollars spent makes the $95 annual fee well worth it.

Welcome Bonus

If you spend $3,000 on purchases within the first 3 months since the account opened, you will receive a bonus 50,000 miles, which is about $500 in value. This bonus has a greater cash value than the next 5 annual fees of $95 combined, making it essential for the owner to reach the $3,000 of purchases in 3 months. If this sum is reached, the card owner will be well on their way to paradise, as these miles will make a flight of their choice expense free.

Rewards Rate

The rewards program from this card is designed to make travel more affordable and enjoyable. With the Capital One Venture Rewards Card, you will receive 2x miles for every dollar spent. Considering that there is no limit to the number of miles you can earn with this credit card and that you receive 2 miles for every dollar spent, this card becomes especially valuable for frequent travelers.

Capital One allows you to use your miles on flights, hotels, and more—you can even transfer miles to any of Capital One’s 15+ travel loyalty programs. These travel loyalty programs consist of:

  1. Aeromexico
  2. Aeroplan (Air Canada)
  3. Alitalia
  4. Avianca
  5. Cathay Pacific
  6. Emirates
  7. Etihad
  8. EVA Air
  9. Finnair
  10. Flying Blue (Air France, KLM)
  11. JetBlue
  12. Qantas
  13. Singapore (KrisFlyer)
  14. Accor Live Limitless
  15. Wyndham Rewards

Despite the lack of an introductory APR period, this card is a true winner when it comes to travel rewards. The ongoing APR is still a reasonable 17.24% - 24.49%, and you can transfer your other credit card balances to this card at the same rate without incurring a balance transfer fee. Capital One will not raise your APR if you miss a payment, but you may receive a small fee of up to $39.

Credits and Benefits

The Capital One Venture Rewards card provides first-time signups with a $100 credit redeemable towards either TSA precheck or Global Entry. This perk is intended to make traveling delightful as these expedited security programs get you from check-in to your gate in under five minutes. This once again benefits the flyer, giving them easier access through airports with reduced cost. This feature will save card owners the stress of missing a flight.

Also, this card has no foreign transaction fee, giving it even more value to the international traveler. While many cards charge a 3% fee for purchases made outside of the United States, this card eliminates that fee, making this card even more worth the annual fee for those flyers who travel internationally a lot. The average American’s cost of an international vacation is $3,250. Accordingly, if you have plans on taking an international trip in the next year, the foreign transaction fee savings cover the entire cost of the annual fee.

This card also provides an auto rental collision damage waiver. This waiver will cover any damage due to collision or theft on any rental car purchased with this credit card. This is a nice feature because it shows you don’t need to be a frequent spender to get value from this card. You also receive travel accident insurance, which allows you to get automatic insurance for a covered loss at no extra charge when you use your credit card to purchase your fare.

All items purchased with this card will be given an extended warranty, doubling the warranty with a maximum extension of one year. This means that if a product you buy within the extended warranty period needs repair (like a TV, appliance, or cell phone), then you will be able to send it back and get it repaired at no cost.

Like other Capital One credit cards, this card comes with $0 fraud liability, meaning you will not owe anything for fraudulent charges made with your credit card. You will also receive credit card alerts from Capital One’s virtual assistant Eno. Eno will inform you whenever a suspicious charge occurs or even if a recurring charge has increased in price over the last month. Eno will keep you informed of everything transpiring with your credit card. For further protection, you also have the ability to lock your card with the Capital One Mobile app if it is ever misplaced, lost, or stolen.

Lastly, for those who still prioritize human customer service, Capital One provides 24/7 customer assistance whenever you may have a question about your credit card or your account.

Sister Card

Capital One also has a VentureOne Rewards card for those who still want to receive miles but do not want to pay the annual fee. This other card earns a lesser 1.25x miles per dollar spent, but it comes at no cost. The initial bonus is lower, at 20,000 miles if you spend $1,000, and the extra amenities such as the credit toward TSA precheck and Global Entry are taken away. It does however have a 0% introductory purchase APR for the first 12 months, allowing the owner to make purchases interest free for the first year. We recommend the Capital One Venture Rewards card for those people who fly frequently and are willing to pay a small annual fee, and the sister card for the people who are not willing to pay the annual fee but still want to receive miles.

Annual Fee

All of these benefits come at the annual cost of $95. This is a relatively low annual fee for the value you are receiving from the miles. As mentioned before, you will receive approximately $500 worth of miles if you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months, and you are receiving 2x miles per dollar spent. Some quick math shows us that meeting the initial sign up bonus will cover the annual fee for the first five years of the card! With a comparatively low annual fee, along with high rewards, this card is worth the cost for the frequent flyer.

Conclusion

As Capital One’s richest travel offering, theVenture Rewards card is a great travel card, for those looking to turn their purchases into their next vacation. A large initial bonus, 2x miles per dollar spent, no foreign transaction fee, and a credit toward TSA precheck and Global Entry makes this credit card an ideal card for frequent travelers or for anyone who is looking for their dream getaway at practically no cost.
