Capital One VentureOne Rewards Review

May 28, 2020

Who is the VentureOne Rewards Card for?

The VentureOne Rewards Card from Capital One is for people that do not want to spend money on a credit card, yet want the travel benefits that come along with one. This card is a very standard card with slightly above average rewards and an easy-to-use interface.

The 0% introductory APR and lack of an annual fee is a good combination for those planning on spending heavily during the first 12 months of owning this card. If you are planning a large vacation and want some bonus miles this might be the card for you.

Overall, if you are not willing to spend on an annual fee for the Capital One Venture card, this card is a great alternative. It can provide similar benefits at zero cost. This card is a solid option for travelers on a tight budget that want to make the most out of their travel expenditures.

Welcome Offer

With the VentureOne card, you can earn 20,000 bonus miles once you spend $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months from account opening. You would have to spend $16,000 to earn the same amount of miles through regular purchases, so this bonus is substantial in light of the zero annual fees.

You also get 0% introductory APR for 12 months with this card. This means that you can feel free to finance large purchases without worrying about interest charges on balances for the first year.

Rewards

Since this is a travel-friendly credit card, it helps you earn 1.25 miles per dollar on every purchase you make. There is no cap to the number of rewards you can earn on purchases. Rewards don't expire for the life of the account. In addition, you will earn 5 miles per dollar for purchases on hotels and car rentals made through Capital One Travel. You can use your Venture miles on flights or hotels and you can even transfer miles to any of Capital One’s travel loyalty programs. You can also redeem your miles for cash in the form of a check or account credit, gift cards and more.

Annual Fee

The lack of an annual fee definitely makes this card an attractive option for frugal travelers. This benefit means you do have to spend an extra penny to reap the rewards of your purchases at home and while traveling.

Services and Protections

With the VentureOne card, you won’t have to pay a transaction fee when making a purchase outside of the United States. This is pretty standard for a travel-friendly card.

You also get automatic travel accident insurance for a covered loss at no extra charge when you use your credit card to purchase your fare. Furthermore, you can rent an eligible vehicle with your credit card and be covered for damage due to collision or theft.

With this card, you can take dining to the next level with access to intimate dinners, curated cuisine and unique chef collaborations. Furthermore, you can get in the game with access to VIP experiences, discounts and on-site perks. Using the VentureOne card, you can also snag tickets to some of the biggest concerts and music festivals and get access to perks like VIP packages, on-site cardholder lounges and more.

This card comes with a $0 Fraud Liability guarantee, which means that if your card is lost or stolen, you will not be responsible for unauthorized charges. The VentureOne card also comes with a virtual card number feature, which means that you can pay for online purchases with virtual card numbers and keep your actual card number to yourself. You can also lock your card in the Capital One Mobile app if it’s misplaced, lost, or stolen.

With the Capital One Mobile App, you can manage your account anywhere, anytime. You can pay your bill, view your balance and transactions and even stay on top of your credit for free with CreditWise, which can send alerts when your TransUnion or Experian credit report changes.

Cautions

This card should be relatively safe to use as long as you institute proper credit management strategies and always make timely payments.

Conclusion

This card can be seen as a precursor to the Capital One Venture Rewards card, which carries a $95 annual fee. That said, the VentureOne card is a great way to enter the Capital One universe and determine if the bank is for you.
