Capital One offers many different types of credit cards that can serve multiple purposes for various consumers.  The suite offers a variety of benefits and costs, so understanding them is essential for making sure that you get the most out of your credit card, especially when your spending habits change.  You may want to start traveling and eating out at restaurants more, or start saving money.  Two cards offered from Capital One are the Quicksilver and Venture card, which help you earn miles on everyday purchases.  When this happens you will need to either upgrade or downgrade your credit card so that it works the best for you.

How do you qualify for the Capital One Venture card?

If you are looking to upgrade to the Capital One Venture card or even the VentureOne card, you will likely need to have an excellent credit score.  This means a score of at least 700  There can be other factors that go into it as well, such as your personal standing with Capital One.  It is typically recommended that you have been using credit and making on-time payments for around 3 to 5 years.

What is the next step if you qualify for the Venture card?

Often, if Capital One has determined that you qualify for the Venture card, they will make an offer to you and notify you that an upgrade is available.  This will happen if you currently use the Quicksilver card and are in good credit standing with your issuer.  If this offer is made, you can either call their customer service at 1-800-227-4825 or visit their website and click the “Upgrade Now” page.  If you accept the offer to upgrade your card, the Venture card will arrive in the mail in 7 to 10 business days.

If you have not received an offer, you can still call the same number to see if you can apply for an upgrade.  Just because Capital One has not offered you an upgrade directly does not mean that you will not be able to get one.  If you think the Venture card works best for you, it is recommended that you reach out to a representative to discuss your options.

What will change when you upgrade to a Capital One Venture card?

The beneficial thing about upgrading your card is that all of your information will stay the same.  Even though you will receive a new card in the mail, the number will stay the same.  Additionally, the APR and credit limit should also stay the same.  However, this can change depending on the offer, so be sure to read the details of your upgrade offer.

What are the benefits of upgrading to a Venture card?

The main advantage of owning a Capital One Venture card is the double miles that can be earned on every purchase.  Unfortunately, you will not earn the 50,000 sign-up bonus miles that are offered to new applicants.  This credit card is excellent for traveling and includes zero foreign transaction fees when making purchases outside of the country.  It offers over 10 travel loyalty programs that allow you to redeem your miles on flights, hotels, transportation, and anything else you may need while planning a trip.  They also allow you to receive $100 in credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, depending on your choice.  All of these rewards come at a cost of $95 per year, making the credit card worth it if you plan on spending a lot on travel.   Lastly, Capital One offers a little flexibility if you want to avoid the annual fee.   Without paying this fee you will still earn 1.25X miles on every purchase.  Overall, the Capital One Venture Card offers ample rewards and will be worth upgrading to if you plan on using it frequently.
