Uber Credit Card Review

May 20, 2020

Who is the Uber Credit Card for?

The Uber credit card is a straightforward, co-branded credit card targeted towards frequent users of the ride-sharing and food delivery app. This card charges no annual fee and brings along solid benefits that can work towards making your daily activities cheaper. If you use Uber frequently enough and do not want to deal with redemption headaches that are associated with more complicated credit cards, this card might be for you.

This card essentially converts a percentage of every purchase into Uber Cash, which can be redeemed through Uber rides, UberEats orders and Jump electric bike rides. Aside from a few other benefits, the Uber Cash rewards program is the main selling point of this card. Since, this card’s rewards program covers international purchases, and waives foreign transaction fees, it is a good option for frequent travelers as well. Uber’s international presence makes this card more useful to all travelers, regardless of location.

A solid welcome bonus essentially gives you free ride or food, which is a great benefit especially since the Uber platform is very easy to use. Credit card management and point redemption can be done through the Uber app, which makes this card practical for those looking to streamline their accounts.

Overall, this card is a solid choice for people that do not own cars and want to make the most out of their commute. With rewards for spending on daily-life activities, this card can help you finance some of those commutes and food deliveries.

Welcome Offer

The signup bonus that comes with this card is very straightforward. You receive $100 in Uber Cash if you spend $500 with the card within 90 days of opening. Considering that a mile in an Uber costs $2 on average, that's 50 free miles. You also earn Uber Cashback on the purchases needed to meet the $500 goal, so the card offers a pretty lucrative bonus.

Rewards

Since this is supposed to be a hassle-free card, the rewards program is pretty simple. You earn 5% back in Uber Cash for every $1 spent on purchases made through Uber Apps.

You earn 3% back in Uber Cash for every $1 spent on purchases made at restaurants, airfare, hotels and vacation rentals and will earn 1% back in Uber Cash for every $1 spent on purchases everywhere else.

Uber Cash can be redeemed on any of the Uber Apps, which means that the rewards you earn from this card can be used for dining and travel.

Annual Fee

There is no annual fee for this credit card, which means that you get all these benefits for no cost. As long as you make timely payments, this card can serve as a way to increase your credit score while earning free rewards.

Services and Protections

If you pay your wireless bill with your Uber Credit Card, you can enjoy cell phone protection of up to $600 per claim.

Also, this card comes with no foreign transaction fee, which means you can freely spend overseas while earning and redeeming Uber Cash. If you intend on commuting using Uber while traveling internationally, this card can be very beneficial for you.

Cautions

You need to be careful not to make late or bounced payments because you might be imposed a fee of up to $39. Being careful with your payments, as with any other credit card, is important with the Uber card.

Keep in mind that this card is very Uber-specific, meaning that to reap the benefits of this card, you will need to use Uber frequently. Also, the rewards rate for this card is not very competitive. At its best, you get a 5% cashback, which implies that to get a free $10 Uber ride, you will need to spend $200 on Uber services. That’s 20 paid rides for 1 free ride. However, if you use this card on a daily basis, it might be possible to get more out of this card.

Conclusion

Overall, this card offers a good deal at zero cost. With no annual fee, you can make this your daily card and reap decent rewards. The Uber card is especially beneficial for those that live in hectic cities like New York or San Francisco, and do not see the benefit in leasing or owning a car. This card can provide you with benefits that can help you save money on services you use on a daily basis.
