The Capital One QuicksilverOne Rewards card is a great option for customers looking for predictable cash rewards on their spending. With this card, you will receive 1.5% cash back on every single purchase –no limits, no exceptions. Cash back rewards also do not expire as long as the account is open, so you can always access your reserves if need be. Luckily, while QuicksilverOne cash rewards can be redeemed specifically for cash or gift cards, they can also be used directly when checking out with Amazon, an added convenience for anyone who frequents the site.

Amazon Shop with Points: How it Works

The official name of this partnership is Amazon Shop with Points, and both Capital One and Amazon have made the incorporation of this process into your spending nearly seamless. If you already have an Amazon account, and have your Capital One QuicksilverOne card hooked up to your account, then you are already capable of redeeming your cash rewards. All you need to do is select “Capital One Rewards” as your payment method at checkout, and then specify exactly how much of your reserve that you want to use.

If you do not have an Amazon account, or you do not have your Capital One card hooked up to your existing account yet, the process is just as simple. With a few clicks, you should be able to redeem your points right at check out.

Trade-Off

While the ability to pay immediately is a convenience for some, customers should be careful in using their points for checking out. If you invoke your Capital One points on a purchase, you will lose the 1.5% cash back bonus on all of the transaction cost that is covered by your points.. If you have been working to save points specifically for a large purchase on Amazon, then redeeming that value is likely worthwhile. Or, if the purchase is relatively small, then making a couple of cents instead of getting the purchase for free may not be worth it. However, if it is a large purchase, for something like textbooks or a large basket of Christmas presents, and saving as much cash as possible is not a necessity, it may be in your best interest to avoid using the points and collect the cash back to use at a later date.

Conclusion

The Capital One QuicksilverOne card is a great tool for those who spend a lot of money and are willing to take the additional costs associated with the card. The $39 annual fee and 26.99% APR could absorb significant funds, but by using points wisely, customers can mitigate these costs. Choosing to use the rewards at Amazon can certainly be useful, but customers should be careful, as there may be more benefits to storing the points for later use down the road.
