There are many reasons that can cause Capital One to restrict your credit card. Firstly, they might suspect fraud if you make unusual purchases. Additionally, you may be restricted because you may have not made your card’s payment on-time. Finally, if you’ve gone above your credit limit, you can also be restricted.

Reasons for having a restriction on your Capital One credit card:

  • Suspect fraud

If Capital One  sees a lot of unusual purchases then they might think that your card has been stolen by someone. So, you have to contact them and let them know that it was you that made those purchases to lift the restriction.

  • Travel notification

Many credit card issuers require cardholders to set a travel notification to make sure that the purchases made during travel don’t get flagged as fraudulent. Capital One does not require such notification. If your card gets restricted anyway, you need to call Capital One and tell them that you made the purchases.

  • Late fees

If you don’t make payments for an extended period of time then Capital One might stop you from making any future purchases.

  • Go above the credit limit

Capital One  might also restrict your card if you go over the credit limit. In such a case, Capital One might restrict the card until the amount you owed goes back under the credit limit.

There are several ways to remove restrictions on your Capital One card based on the reasons mentioned above.

Ways to remove a restriction on your Capital One credit card:

  • Call the customer support team

When a card is restricted, you can’t make new purchases. To remove restrictions on your Capital One credit card, call customer service at 800-227-4825. The representative should be able to give information on why the card is restricted and what to do to get this issue resolved.

  • Clear your existing dues

If your Capital One credit card is restricted because of extra dues then you need to clear your existing dues before calling them.
