Delta’s Skymiles is one of the most common commonly used frequent flyer programs. However, in the case that you are unsatisfied with your Delta experience or are no longer going to be traveling often, you may be considering selling your Delta miles. There are many websites that will help you sell your miles for cash; however, you cannot legally sell your frequent flyer miles for cash.
Legally speaking, you can only buy, gift, transfer, or donate your miles.
- Buy Miles - you can use purchased miles on more than just flight bookings. They can also be used toward upgrades and the Delta Sky Club membership.
- Transfer Miles - this is perhaps the closest you can get to ‘selling’ your miles, as you can still gain some value from them. You can transfer miles to anyone and can transfer your miles to up to 4 SkyMiles members at one go. However, transferring miles imposes a fee of 1 cent per mile transferred, a $30 transaction fee, and tax. Therefore, it is best to use this option only if you are transferring a small number of miles. You can transfer miles from as little as 1000 miles to up to 30000 miles.
- Gift Miles - very similar to transferring miles; however, gifting miles is a much better choice if you are considering gifting a large number miles, then this may be the best option as there is no transaction fee. However, there is a fee of 3.5 cents per mile gifted. You can gift as little as 2000 miles and up to 60000 miles.
- Donate Miles - if you only have a few miles left, you may consider donating your miles. As Delta as charitable partnerships worldwide, you can pick a charity of your choice within different regions (US, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East)
