AAdvantage Platinum Select card
The Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card is intended for loyal airline travelers as the card earns double miles on American Airlines purchases and at select gas stations and restaurants. Cardholders also benefit from free check-in baggage, preferred boarding, and other similar travel benefits.
With no introductory APR, the card comes with a waived annual fee for the first year and a fee of $99 from then on. You can earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after spending $2,500 within the first 3 months of opening your account. You can also earn a $125 American Airlines Flight Discount after spending $20,000 during your card membership year and renew your card.
Downgrading my AAdvantage Platinum Select card
If you decide that the AAdvantage Platinum Select is no longer serving you, you could consider downgrading it to the American Airlines AAdvantage MileUp Card, which allows you to continue earning American Airlines miles while maintaining your existing credit line and history, as long as you’ve had the Platinum for at least 12 months.
The MileUp card comes with no annual fee and offers 1-2 AAdvantage miles per dollar spent on American Airlines purchases, grocery store purchases, and other purchases. Downgrading to this card might be the better option for you if you do not want an annual fee and prefer a long-term card option that could help build your credit history rather than cancelling your card entirely. The change can be made with a simple phone call with no additional charge.
Some other similar recommended options are the Citi Double Cash, Citi Dividend, Citi ThankYou Preferred.
Conclusion
If you no longer find the services of the AAdvantage Platinum Select card useful to you, downgrading to the AAdvantage MileUp Card or another similar card might be more beneficial. It’ll save you unnecessary fees and will provide services more relevant to your needs.
