As a student either in high school or college, you are likely looking to gain a headstart in building a strong credit score. It is, therefore, crucial to opt for a card that not only suits your financial needs but also offers satisfactory rewards. Let’s discuss a few such student cards that have many rewards to offer.

Discover It Cash Back

With no annual fee and a standard variable APR of 12.99%-21.99%, the Discover It Cash Back is one of the most lucrative student rewards cards. It offers the following rewards:

  • 5% cash back each quarter on daily purchases such as groceries, restaurants, certain rideshares, and online shopping.
  • 1% automatic cash back on all other purchases
  • Introductory cash back match - at the end of your first year with the card, Discover will automatically match all the cash back you have earned.
  • $20 in statement credit for each academic year you achieve a GPA of 3.0 or above, for five years.

This is a great card for students who are starting to learn about credit and offers great rewards with incentives to maintain high grades. However, this card may not be your best option if you don’t regularly consume the rotating categories or have unstable spending patterns.

Deserve EDU Mastercard for Students

This student rewards card is a great choice if you are a frequent user of Amazon.

  • A one time credit of $59 for Amazon Prime Student membership.
  • No annual fee
  • Regular APR of 18.74%
  • 1% cash back on all purchases
  • Cell phone protection of up to $600
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • No SSN required for international students

This is a solid choice for students who want to take advantage of the card’s Amazon benefits, as well as its ID theft protection. The 1% cash back isn’t the greatest reward rate for a card, and so this may not be the ideal card for students who are looking for a large number of rewards.

Capital One’s Journey Student Rewards

This rewards card is the ideal pick for students who are frequent travelers.

  • No annual fee
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • Pick your monthly due date
  • 1.25% cash back rewards if you pay back on time

This card is designed for students who are keen on studying abroad and traveling. Furthermore, you can even request for an increase in credit line after paying your first 5 monthly bills punctually. However, this card is best suited for those above the age of 21, since you will require a source of independent income otherwise to be eligible for the card.

Citi Rewards+ Student Card

The Citi Rewards+ Student card is unique since it’s the only credit card that automatically rounds your rewards to the nearest 10 points after every purchase.

  • No annual fee
  • Regular APR of 14.49% - 24.49%
  • 2500 bonus points after spending $500 worth on purchases within the first 3 months
  • 2x Thankyou points at supermarkets and gas stations for the first $6000 worth of consumption in the first year, after which you will earn 1x points on such purchases.
  • Earn 1x purchases on all other purchases

The Citi Rewards+ Student Card is a great choice for students who own vehicles and make purchases at supermarkets regularly. However, this card is not the best choice for frequent travelers since it does charge foreign transaction costs.
