Delta Skymiles are the rewards you get when you use any of the Delta travel rewards credit cards. You get about 1.61 cents per mile in value which is one of the best in the market for airline credit cards, and therefore you need about 100 miles to equal a $1. If you want the most value for your points then the Delta travel credit cards may be the way to go. Depending on the flight, however, the number of miles need to cover the cost may vary.

Delta Skymiles Cards

There are 4 Delta Skymiles cards, the platinum, the gold, the reserve, and the blue cards. They each come with similar benefits and slightly different rewards programs. The rewards range from 2x - 3x miles on Delta purchases and 1x - 2x on all other purchases, and therefore you can always be working towards your next big vacation. They also come with relatively big sign up bonuses that allow you to purchase flight tickets as long as you make the specified amount of purchases in a given period (usually 3 months). These cards make it easy for frequent Delta users to gain rewards and get free airline tickets. You can also get hotel stays and other vacation packages with your Delta Skymiles, which ensures that there is always something for everybody.

Points needed

There is no specific amount of points needed for a ticket because it is dependant on when the flight is taken and what type of flight it is. International and round trip tickets are more expensive than domestic one-way flights so it is all dependent on what you are looking for. The minimum amount of miles needed for U.S domestic roundtrip flight is 25,000 miles. One way tickets start as low as 12,500 miles; therefore, if you have miles stored up it can make your flights significantly cheaper. Also, the signup bonuses are usually enough to net you at least a one-way domestic flight ticket so if you know you can meet the signup bonus then you will already be getting flights for free. Delta Skymiles offer the best value for your points allowing you to save on all your vacation needs.

Takeaways

There is no exact amount you need for a flight as it is all dependent on what type of flight you are looking for. The cheapest you can find a roundtrip domestic flight is usually around 25,000 miles so id you have miles stored up you could make your travels significantly cheaper. Most Delta cards make it relatively easy to earn points so if you are a frequent delta user these cards would be perfect for you.
