Overview

The short answer is no. You do not need a bank account to get a credit card but it is highly recommended. Having a bank account with the card issuer makes it easier to get approved for credit cards and make payments for the card. It is recommended that you have a bank account when applying for a credit card to make it easier for you.

Benefits of Having a Bank Account

When you are online and want to make payments, banks usually want to deduct straight from your bank account but if you do not have a bank account then you are forced to use other methods that may cost money or complicate the payment process. If there is a local branch nearby, you can usually go to the bank and make your payments in cash with a teller. However, this does create a time-consuming process that can be easily avoided by opening a bank account.

Online banking and bank accounts make your life significantly easier by taking the hassle out of paying off your credit card. If you decide to use mail or other money order services you could be facing late fees. You can’t control how fast the mail is but having the online banking account makes it easy to make payments instantly and you don’t have to worry about incurring extra fees.

Getting a checking account is easy and free especially if you qualify for a credit card with the bank. It will help you not only make payments easier but also reap the benefits that come with being apart of the bank.

What if you don’t want a Bank Account?

You do not need a bank account in order to have a credit card. There are some banks that allow you to apply for a credit card even if you do not have a bank account. People sometimes may not have access to a bank account but need a credit card. Certain secured and other credit cards allow you to pay for them in ways that do not have a bank account. Although it is recommended to have a bank account there are certain exceptions to that rule.

Conclusion

Even though you don’t need a bank account, it is more cost-efficient and easier to manage payments with one. They usually come at no cost especially if you already qualify for a credit card with that bank. We recommend that you look to open a bank account if you can so that payments can be made easier and you can avoid any unnecessary fees. Also, you can earn interest on your earnings in a bank account generating revenue that would otherwise not be there.
