Citi rewards, also known as ThankYou points, accumulate once you start spending on goods using Citi rewards cards. Some of the Citi ThankYou cards include the Citi Rewards+ Card, the Citi Premier Card, and the Citi Prestige Card. Airline partners, particularly on award flights in international premium cabins are the best option to use your ThankYou points toward as they offer the most value for your points. For instance, the value of your ThankYou points will max out at about 1.25 cents per point when you hold a Citi Premier card, which is equivalent to getting a $100 ticket for about 8,000 ThankYou points.

Maximum-value redemption options:

  • Avianca LifeMiles

Citi has been offering a lucrative loyalty program (LifeMiles) since 2017 which is a great perk if you’re traveling within the US. LifeMiles splits the US into three different award zones. The best deals are on domestic-short-haul flights withStar Alliance partner United. If you’re flying within a single award zone, Avianca only charges 7,500 miles for a one-way economy award.

  • Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic has built a valuable loyalty program by being a non-alliance member. A loyalty card program named “Flying Club” has different award charts for each of its partner airlines.

  • Delta

Delta routinely produces incredible redemption opportunities for long-haul business flights with relatively small amounts of miles, such as 50,000 Virgin Atlantic miles for the new Delta One Suite between the US and Europe

  • ANA

Virgin Atlantic’s ANA award chart is one of the best in the points and miles world. You can’t overlook the ability to book ANA first class from the U.S. to Japan for 110,000-120,000 miles round-trip, depending on where in the USyou depart from (this is cheaper than most other airlines which would charge for a one-way ticket).

  • Etihad Guest

You can use your ThankYou points towards Etihad Guest which is of tremendous value. You’ll find the best values in premium cabins, such as round-trip business class flights to Europe from the US for only 100,000 miles (an average flight would cost you around 50,000 miles to Asia).

  • Singapore KrisFlyer

The Singapore KrisFlyer’s loyalty program doesn’t release long-haul premium-cabin award space to its partners. It will cost you around 86,000 miles to fly from NewYork to Frankfurt in Suites class, whereas it costs around 107,000 miles to fly from LA to Tokyo in Suites class. It also has other benefits for booking Star-Alliance routes including 35,000 miles in economy or 69,000 miles in business for a round-trip award from mainland to Hawaii on United.

Conclusion

We have discussed various options of redeeming Citi rewards - also known as ThankYou points - required per flight based on different loyalty programs. Pick the one that is most valuable and suitable to you and relish the benefits associated with it.
