Capital One’s VentureOne credit card is one of the most commonly used rewards credit cards; however, depending on your financial background and behavior this card may or may not be the right rewards card for you.

VentureOne’s basic features

  • Annual fee - $0
  • Sing up bonus - 20000 miles after you spend $1000 within 3 months - rough;ly equivalent to $200 in travel purchases
  • Rewards rate - 1.25 miles per dollar spent
  • APR - Introductory APR of 0% for a year, after which a variable APR between 14.49% - 24.49% will come into effect.
  • No balance transfer fee
  • No foreign transaction fees

Now that you are aware of VentureOne’s basic features, let’s look into the reasons why the card may or may not be the best card for you.

Reasons to choose the VentureOne card

The Capital One VentureOne Rewards card might be a great fit if you are not a big spender. Specifically, if you only occasionally travel and are only looking to carry a card to collect travel miles here and then, then the VentureOne card may be the right card for you. Because the card has no annual fee, there is no financial burden for you to carry the card. Furthermore, with no foreign transaction costs and a 0% Introductory APR, the VentureOne card is a great introductory rewards card for those transitioning toward a more travel-heavy lifestyle.

Furthermore, the VentureOne card also offers a variety of options to redeem your rewards through. Individual miles are worth 1 cent each in terms of travel purchases and can be redeemed in the following three ways:

  • Using your miles to book travel options directly through Capital One’s online platform.
  • Transfer your miles to a variety of loyalty programs worldwide
  • “Erase” eligible travel purchases made by the card by collecting rewards and redeem your rewards against statement credit

Reasons why the VentureOne card may not be right for you

Perhaps VentureOne’s least attractive attribute is its lackluster rewards system. Compared to other cards, VentureOne’s base rewards rate of 1.25% is fairly subpar. So, if you are a big spender, then it may be wiser to opt for other cards that have a higher rewards rate.
