The Bank of America Travel Rewards Card

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card offers its cardholders 1.5 points on every $1 spent on all purchases. There is additionally a signup bonus that offers cardholders 25,000 points after spending $1,000 within the first 90 days of opening their account.

With no annual or foreign transaction fee, and a 0% intro APR on purchases for the first 12 months, this card is a solid choice for those who have a high enough credit score to own it. However, for many, it is unattainable since it requires good to excellent credit.

Do My Travel Rewards Expire?

Another benefit of having this card is that as long as you are an active card user, your rewards will not expire. However, if you want to close your account for any reason, it is important that you either use your points or redeem them for cash or credit before closing your account.

Using your points is the ideal scenario because it allows you to use the full value of the points you have earned. This is not an option for everyone, though, because many do not want or need a trip when they plan to close their account.

In this situation, travel rewards can be redeemed for cash at 0.6 cents each. This is a pretty dismal redeemable rate, especially since the Bank of America Premium Rewards card offers a redemption rate of 1 cent for each point for cash.

However, there is also the option to redeem your points in the form of gift cards. Starting at 3,125 points, cardholders can receive 0.8 cents per point. The more points you redeem, the value of the gift card will increase. For example, if you redeem 20,000 points, you will get 1 cent back for every point.

Bottom Line

The key takeaway from this is that as long as you hold an active Bank of America account, your points will not expire. There are some measures to consider if you have points leftover and are considering closing your account.

Ultimately, using your points on a trip will allow you to get the most value out of them. You can, though, redeem your points in other ways making them not completely wasted if you choose to close your account.
