With the world becoming increasingly digitized, more people are using Apple Wallet in daily transactions. Apple Wallet is an app connected to Apple Pay that allows Apple users to make purchases. Users can spend by scanning a barcode rather than physically taking out cash or their credit card. You cannot add reward points to Apple Wallet, but you can add rewards credit cards.

Adding rewards cards

Although you can’t add points directly to Apple Wallet, you can add credit cards that earn rewards. Because of the vast popularity of Apple Wallet, most credit cards nowadays, like the Regions Prestige Visa Signature card, have a way to link to Apple Wallet. Usually, you will have to download your credit card merchant’s app. Next, you will have to log into your account on the app and view your rewards card. From there, you should see a button called something similar to “Add to Apple Wallet.” The app may ask you to choose your preferred store location and whether you want to use the card as your default payment method. After all of these steps, your credit card should be successfully set up and you can start earning rewards points using your phone.

How to use your card in-store

When you are ready to use your card from Apple Wallet in-store, pull out your iPhone or Apple Watch. If you’ve added a preferred store location, a notification will be displayed. Hold your device about a foot from the payment terminal to show the payment screen. If this doesn’t work, double-press your home button. Choose the card you want to use, and scan the barcode. Finally, authenticate your purchase on your device.

Earning reward points

Some credit cards’ reward points differ when using Apple Wallet. Credit cards typically have rewards rates such as 3x points for every dollar spent at a grocery store. However, when you use your card on Apple Wallet, these rewards rates may fluctuate depending on how your card’s categories are coded. For example, Walmart may register as a discount store rather than a grocery store and cause a cardholder to earn different point amounts. Generally, credit cards earn the same rewards through Apple Wallet and physical cards, but to be sure, make sure to check with your credit card issuer.

Conclusion

No, you cannot add reward points directly to Apple Wallet. However, you can add reward cards and earn points that way. Using cards on Apple Wallet is a much safer way to spend, since it doesn’t store your card number or send your card number to stores. To guarantee you are earning the correct reward points when you spend, check with your card merchant.
