The American Express Gold card is one of the best metal cards available on the market. It is great for cardholders who frequently travel, shop big, and spend a lot of money at restaurants. Although the card has an annual fee of $250, this fact is outweighed by the card’s membership rewards program, which allows consumers to earn points as they make purchases.

Metal cards range widely in their annual fees, additional benefits, and weights. The amount of metal cards offered has significantly increased in the past years, but the Amex gold remains one of the best. Here’s why:

Rewards Program

The American Express Gold cardholders can earn 4x membership rewards points for every dollar spent at U.S. restaurants and U.S. supermarkets, up to $25,000 in purchases. Additionally, if you use your card to book flights via the American Express website or directly via the airlines, you earn 3x points. These points can be redeemed through the American Express travel website or online purchases.

With these redeemed membership rewards points, customers can book flights and hotels or use them in conjunction with a participating frequent flyer program to get offers on flight bookings and even discounts!

Also, cardholders of the Amex Gold are given many credits such as $120 in dining, $100 in airline fee, and $100 in hotel collection. The dining credit is added to your statement monthly and can be used at partnering diners: Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth's Chris Steak House, Boxed, and participating Shake Shack locations. Similarly, with the airline fee, credit cardholders can use the points collected to offset supplemental travel costs like in-flight meals and baggage fees and the hotel collection credit can be used for dining, resort, and spa activities. While the card's annual fee seems to be around $250, the benefits and rewards are enough to make up for that fee.

Lastly, as of April 2020, for the first three months of account membership, first-time cardholders are also eligible for 35,000 points after they use the card to make $4,000 in purchases.

Conclusion

The American Express Gold card is perfect for you if you are looking for a rewarding metal card. Not only does it offer 4x Membership Rewards points, but it also offers 3x points for flights booked directly with airlines and 1x points on other purchases, making it a good pick for potential cardholders. For all those looking for the best metal card available, this is the card for you.
