Owning a credit card is very useful for making purchases when cash is not immediately available or for building your credit score.  Even more so, they are useful for earning rewards such as cash back or travel miles.  A credit card can be very beneficial if you make your payments on time and monitor it closely to make sure you avoid going into debt.  American Express (Amex) is one of the most well-known issuers of credit cards and offers many rewards for those with qualifying credit.

What does the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card offer?

The Amex Blue Cash Everyday offers a beneficial introductory period of the 15 months.  During this time, owners of the credit card can enjoy a 0% APR on both purchases and transfers.  The main benefit of this card comes from the cash back that can be earned, making it an everyday card.  In the first 3 months, if you spend $1000 you will earn a $150 statement credit.  This just means that American Express will add $150 dollars to your account that you can spend without paying back instead of direct cash.  The biggest benefit in cash back from this card comes from the 3% that is earned from purchases at supermarkets.  This applies to up to $6,000 in purchases, totaling $180 in cash back per year.  On top of that, 2% is earned at gas stations and certain department stores.  Lastly, 1% is earned on all other purchases.  The cash back is earned in statement credits, or “Reward Dollars” as American Express refers to them.

What does it cost to own an Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card?

Firstly, the Blue Cash Everyday card has no annual fee.  After the introductory 15 months, the APR will increase to 12.99% - 23.99% variable, depending on your creditworthiness.  There is a balance transfer fee of 3% with a minimum of $5 and a cash advance fee of 5% with a minimum of $10.  Additionally, there is a foreign transaction fee (FTF) of 2.7% on all international purchases.  If you like traveling regularly, it may be worth it to look at other cards because of this FTF.

How can you qualify for the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card?

If you want to qualify for the American Express Blue Cash Everyday Card, you need to have a good credit score.  It is recommended that you have around 700 in order to have a decent chance of being approved.  As with all credit cards, the closer you are to a perfect credit score of 850, the higher your odds will be.  The American Express website has a tool to check your prequalification that will give you a good idea of your chances of being approved.  There is no way to be certain, but this tool will be able to give you a good estimate.
